Homecoming 2009

This past weekend was homecoming at Chetek High School. It started by Joel & I taking off from work early in order to get up to the football field in time for kick off. I'm not sure how fun it was to sit in the rain, but it's just the stuff you have to do as parents. By half time, the Bulldogs were losing 0-15. The half-time show was fabulous (ok, my son was in it, so what can I say) The marching band played several Rolling Stone songs while the color guard twirled their flags. Let me say, I could differently see the difference in the training from South St Paul march band & Chetek. Jonathan was totally poised while the remainder of the band was, well.......not so much. The color guard was once again another story, Abby in her prime could out twirl them with her eyes blindfolded & hands tied behind her back (ok, so maybe not the hands tied behind the back) But all in all it was a very nice preformance. I alway did & do enjoying watching the marching band & color guard perform. After half time, the rain tappered off, but not quick enough to allow the Bulldogs a homecoming win.

Saturday we spent working in the garage, basement & storage locker trying to get things squared away in preparation for another garage sale. Pam & Steve came over to help & lend some company. At 6:42 pm, Jonathan decided he was going to the homecoming dance afterall with Cassie and it started at 7:30 pm........huh! I improvided & had him out by 7:45 pm! I was impressed with myself on that one.

Sunday was just another run around day. Up to Rice Lake to get the guys groceries for the week, some new winter clothes & supplies from Menards. Joel & I were out the door by 4:45 pm, so we could get home early enough to get to Menards in WSP to get a new closet door for Big Joe's old room & trim for Jonathan's room before they went off sale. Sheld came over to help Joel move the washer & dryer back into the laundry room after the new floor was dry.

I'll have to get pictures from my son from the festivities to post on the blog.........

We are now a 4 Season Cabin

Joel's vacation is all complete and he is back to work like the rest of us poor folk.......but he got a shit load done.

The furnace & central air was finally completed on Thursday, so we are officially a 4 season house. Just because the title is there, doesn't mean that the Waage's are ready for their first winter at the lake.......but we are getting there slow but surely.

Big Joe picked me up from work at 2:15 pm on Friday, so we could make a bee line to get to the lake because Jonathan was going to playing in his first pep band as a Chetek Bulldog and I wanted to be there. So we pull up into the driveway & there stands my beloved son with 4 cheerleaders! huh..... So off he goes to toot his horn. The Bulldogs lost :( but my son sounded fabulous. I am so proud of him. While that was all going on Joel & Steve were moving the water pipes in the basement to prepare for Wayde & Shelley to come in the morning to scope out the possiblity of putting some step inside the house going to the basement. Later Pam & I drove over to Jeanie & Chris's house. Irene (my adopted Kensey mom), Chris, Jeanie & Suzie were sitting around a bon fire. Pam was going to be borrowing Suzie's car for the weekend to get to work.

Saturday we had to have Jonathan at the high school by 4:30 am.......yes, I said 4:30 am because they were taking a school bus down to Madison to play at the Badger game. Once again, he had a blast and was home by 7:00 pm but he was a little tuckered out. But not so tuckered that he & Daniel couldn't make a trip up to Rice Lake to hang out for awhile. While Jonathan was gone for the whole day, we had to get to our business at hand of getting the house ready for winter. Wayde & Shelley came up from O'Neill Creek to check out our ideas for adding steps into the basement. As always, Wayde comes to the recue and came up with a fabulous idea. So November 13th & 14th, with Wayde leading the pack........we are getting steps. Woo Hoo!! We are going to lose the guest bedroom (sorry everyone :( but we still have the futon, air mattress or floor) & trying removing the wall between the guest bedroom & livingroom to open up the space. Also at some point be adding a office area on the bathroom wall. After Wayde & Shelley left to go back to attend Oktoberfest, Joel & Big Joe continued to work on building walls, insulating and sheet rocking the basement. They only have 1 more wall to go and they are done. Boy does that make a difference......it actually is warm down there.

Sunday was more of the same.......work, work & work. We had absolutely beautiful weather, but didn't take the opportunity to hit the water on the pontoon or jet ski at all. It will all pay off in the future. Pam & Steve stopped over in the afternoon & stayed to send Joel, Lilly & me back to South St Paul later in the evening after I fixed Jonathan dinner. He needed to be at marching band practive by 6:45pm. They are down to the wire in preparation for the show at homecoming this Friday.

Love you all.....

Chetek Harvest Fest 2009

This past weekend was Chetek's Harvest Fest and Rita came up to enjoy the festivities. Joel & I got a late start coming out of the cities because he decided to finish up the floor in the SSP house laundry. So by the time we went & picked up Rita & got to the lake it was about 8. We relaxed and decided to head to bed early because we were on schedule to have a busy Saturday.

Saturday morning started bright & early with Rita & I heading out to attend the Chetek All City Garage. Yes, anybody that knows me knows how much I dispise going to garage sales. But Rita wanted to.....so off we went. She had a blast finding little treasures. We garaged saled until 10:00 when we headed over to pickup Pam who was going to take us to 2 stores in Barron that I had heard about but never had been to. The first one was Fitzerger's Meat (I don't know how to spell it) but it is a really "cool" place and I literally mean it. You actually walk into the cooler & freezer to get your discount meats, cheese & goodies. We left with a nice assortment of stuff. After that we headed to the Country Lane Pantry, which is a cute little store run by a family of mennonite's. When I entered that I was in high heaven. It has bulk spices, organic bulk food & a nice little sugar free section. I could have been lost in that store for hours and it wasn't all that big. We surely enjoyed ourselves and once again left with a HUGE selection of stuff. After that it was time to start heading back home to get ready to go to the demolition derby. Rita was tired, so she decided to stay back & take a nap. Jonathan & Cassie where there to keep her company once she awoke. Joel, Big Joe, kid-napped Pam & myself went on to the derby (Steve was home sicker than a dog & wasn't invited along because we didn't want his dam germs....love ya Steve xoxo). He had a blast!! Hope that Chetek takes this money maker & goes with it. For the first annual they had a BIG turn out. We got home around 6:30 just in time to hand some cash off to Jonathan so he & Daniel could got grab a bite to eat & a movie in Rice Lake. Daniel is a foreign exchange student from Norway. He & Jonathan are the new kids on the block and are having fun navigating the school together. The rest of us had a little dinner & turned in around 10:00 pm.

Sunday was the normal laundry day, but I was up at the crack of dawn and had all of it wash & on the line by noon or so. The guys ran to Menard's to get a couple parts for when Joel moves the water lines. When we returned.....it was time for some boating. 80's & sunny = boating & cocktails. Had a beautiful afternoon on the lake with our boat and Pam & Steve's boat hooked up & toodling. It was Rita's firest boat ride and she ejoyed herself. Pam & I made lunches and we ate on the boat. Then it was time to head out. Joel got to stay behind while Big Joe, Rita & me had to go back to MN. Yuck!

Joel stayed behind because he is on a working vacation. We are getting our furnce, central air and hook us up to natural gas. Once this is complete......we will be officially a 4 season cabin and the final step in preparation to get the house ready for winter.

Take care

Jonathan's first day of his senior year

Tuesday, September 1st was Jonathan's first day of school in a new school of his senior year. Joel & I came up the night before to attend the open house, so we both decided to take Tuesday off to share in this special day.

Monday night at open house we got the grand tour of the school and were able to meet all his teachers. The last teacher we were to meet was, Mr William Munch. When we arrived in his classroom, the guidiance counselor introduced Jonathan as a transplant from South St Paul. Mr Munch then laughed and stated "You are my rival!" We all looked perplexed at each other as Mr Munch went on to explain. Mr Munch stated that he graduated from Henry Sibley and as everyone knows WSP & SSP are total rivals. As the conversation continued, He said that he graduated in 1981 which Joel replyed ......"So did I!" So Mr Munch went behind his desk and pulled out the 1981 yearbook from Sibley and sure enought......there they both were. What a flippin small world. Jonathan made several new friends that evening, but one that stood out was, Cassie. She helped him around and showed him where all the classroom were. She was great help. That night, Jonathan didn't do much sleeping due to nerves & excitement.

Tuesday morning I got up with him to help him get ready & make sure he was on time. And of course I had to snap the kodiak moment as well.

But as he pulled away........I couldn't help remembering way back to kindergarten. It was September 1997, when my little man was proving to the world he was ready to go to school.

As he got into that big black pickup ...........I couldn't help remembering him getting into that big yellow school bus........................

Boy time has sure flown by. In no time it will be May 29, 2010 and he will be graduating from high school and on his way to college.

Lots of love......
