Merry Christmas To All

Just it has been awhile since I updated everything. We have been so busy with getting the lake ready for our first Christmas at the lake.

On Monday, I had surgery again on my right shoulder, because it just doesn't seem to want to work. Now it is PT everyday to get it past the hump. After surgery on Monday, we turned around to go back to the lake for Jonathan's Christmas Band concert. He is still playing the tuba and has made it to "first chair" which in the music world is quite a little honor. We are so proud.

Tonight we are taking our elders, Rita, John Young, Pat Nangle & Grandma Waage out for dinner to Old Country Buffet.....yuk, but it is John Young favorite in the whole world. After diner, we will go looking at Christmas light for a hour or so. After we hand out their Christmas gifts we drop them off.

Tomorrow, off to the lake. This year our Rita is coming to spend the Christmas holiday with us. I am very excited to have her with us during this special time of the year. We have decided to stay at the lake for the week & Joel will be comuting between work & the lake. After he runs it for the week, we are going to be sitting down to figure the cost effectiness of shutting down the Minnesota house & moving up to the lake full time. More to that to follow.

Well, gotta fly.......

Merry Christmas to all.

Love Joel, Amy & Jonathan

New Ulm Weekend

This past weekend was our annual trip down to New Ulm with Wayde & Shelley and Klaus & Ann.

On Friday Jonathan, Daniel & Big Joe came back to the cities to pickup Lilly to bring her to the lake while we are in New Ulm. While they were here, Jonathan and his friend Daniel (he is the foreign exchange student from Norway that goes to school with him) went to Ficocello's to get haircuts. Apparently the salons in Chetek, Rice Lake and Eau Claire aren't up on the current trends. Joel & I met with our Realtor, Brad and decided to reduce the purchase price of the SSP house from $175,000 to $169,000. Doing so, we got a lot of action with 3 showings & another open house on Sunday. It looks that Joel's job transfer is slowly moving forward and hopefully will be in full progress by March. After we sign the new papers, we headed to St Peter to meet Wayde & Shelley at the Embassy Bar for a pre-New Ulm cocktail. We usually leave in time to make it to the Schell's Brewery for the 3:00 pm tour, but not this year. So we decided to just stop by the gift store for Shelley to do so Christmas shopping.

Then it was onto to the B & L for a couple more cocktails and to wait to meet up with Klaus & Ann. They arrived shortly before 4:00 pm and we all decided to stay around to eat dinner early rather than go check into the B & B. At 5:00 pm we headed down the street to Kaiserhoff's for fine German dinner for 6! Once again, wonderful food.

It was off to check into the Deutsche Strasse Bed & Breakfast where we have been staying for years. The innkeepers, Gary & Ramona Sonnenberg are the most wonderful hosts which is why we keep going back after all these years. Once we were all settled into our rooms we cleaned up a bit and headed off to the vineyard. Let the rest of our New Ulm trip .....it is all about tradition, so our next stop is Morgan Creek Vineyard for their annual Candlelight wine tasting. The vineyard is always decorated beautifully for Christmas. It was a better year for the grapes, which produced so fine wines. Last year it was a terrible crop, therefore the wines were not wonderful & plentiful. After we had our fill of appetizers and wine, we took off to go back to the B & L to end our evening with cocktails & beers. As usual, Ann & myself dropped off first and decided to go back to the B & B to hit the sack. Next to follow was Shelley with Klaus, Wayde and Joel shortly after. Wayde was a smart man and went straight off to bed while Klaus & Joel stayed up to shoot the shit with Gary, the innkeeper, until 2:30 am.

Breakfast was served at 9:00 am and once again Ramona didn't let us down with her 10 course breakfast and Gary as our waiter. Dang, we love these guys! They shared with us that Gary was laid off from his job as Chief Financial Officer at Martin Luther King College back in April. To liquidate, they were putting the Deutsche Strasse for sale on the market. I am sad because I can't imagine going down there and not being greeted by them. If you are every in the area, please check them out.........you will love it. Here is the link to their website: www.deutschestrasse.com

After a fine breakfast and fabulous conversation, it was time to move on. After we all checked out and gave our hugs & kisses to all, we headed to the lake. First we needed to make a pit stop to this little German store to pickup Jonathan's advent calendar & chocolate bar. Once again.....it's an annual thing.

After a couple of pit stops, we arrived at the lake around 4:00 pm. After our greetings, Big Joe started dinner, I rested my shoulder and Joel got the Christmas tree ready to bring into the house.

Christmas is my favorite time of the year.......I love to celebrate the birth of our Lord, I love the smell of real Christmas trees, I love to decorate the house, I love to listen to Christmas music, I love to watch my son's eyes light up when I have tracked down that impossible gift and most of all.......I love the time spent with my family. This year is going to be doubly special as it will be our first Christmas at the lake, so we have new traditions to make and I am looking forward to making them happen. Well, now the dilemma.......I am finding it very hard to find my Christmas spirit this year. I have had to dig very deep to attempt to find out what my problem is........but I will figure it out.

Sunday morning I got up bright & early to start decorating our house for the holidays. I do have to say, it helped a tad in putting me in the spirit. I didn't get everything done, but it was a start and I should finish next weekend. We left early to get to the SSP house in time for us to go to the grocery store and Joel to watch the Vikings game.

Betcha thought we were all gone!

Well.......alot has happened to the Waage's since our last update, but we are hear to tell everyone about all the adventure's we have been going through:

I have been doctoring for the last 3 month's with a right shoulder problem. On Oct 8th I went in to have a MRI done at 9pm in the evening. My doctor paid the radiologist to be on stand by to read the MRI report and file the report to my doctor by 8am the following morning. On Friday morning I went to the doctor's office and we found out I had a collapsed shoulder & I needed emergency surgery. The doctor wanted to do my surgery on Monday, but I was unable to get my pre-op physical done in time, so they scheduled it for Wednesday, October 14th. I went back to work and called our HR person to verify I had enough vacation time to take Wed, thurs & Fri off to recoup from my surgery. I did have the available time so I followed up with all the appropriate people in my office. Two minutes later my boss screamed across the room that I needed to reschedule my surgery due to the fact that there were going to be other people out at the same time. My jaw dropped! I was flabber gasted that I couldn't have my emergency surgery, but yet the "other people" off in my office were going hunting. To make a long story short, I grabbed my keys and cell phone & walked off the job. Then I had to call my husband to tell him that I had just quit my job! He was very supportive.

On October 14th I had my surgery. Everything went as well that could be expected.

On October 19th I started my new job with Styer Logistics. I even had 2 job offers to choose from!

On October 29th we finally put the house on the market MLS #3851254. We have had a lot of action & have had open houses even Sunday since.

On October 30-Nov 1, Wayde & Shelley and Klaus & Ann came up to the lake from the Gilligan's Halloween Scavenger hunt. I screwed that up big time and we missed the start, so we decided to just follow behind and drink at all the bars. I could drink because I was on too many pain killers. :( Had a blast anyways

November 7th was my "mom" Rita's Birthday and on November 12th was our John Young's Birthday. So we took them out for dinner & gave them their birthday presents. Another nice evening as always.

November 12-15, Wayde, Shelley & their son Brent came up to the lake to put steps into our basement from the inside of the house. Brent took a whole shit load of pictures, but I have yet for him to send them to me. Boy, did it turn out awesome! We absolutely love it. But now comes all the winter remodeling project that must be done before the 3rd annual Memorial Weekend Bash! don't forget to mark your calenders.......

Thanksgiving.......was a very special day for us. It started with the fact that it was Jonathan's 18th birthday. My baby is now a man. He can be drafted, he can buy cigarettes and he can vote. Happy Birthday, Finn!
Next, since we terminated our position with Little Brothers (due to moving to Wisconsin) we were able to have Thanksgiving with our "real" family...........Pam, Steve, Tamara, Carson, Suzie and Bob. It was one of the nicest Thanksgiving I have had in my entire life. Pam & Steve did all the cooking due to me still healing from my surgery. All Joel & I did was supply the turkey & pies.......they did the rest.
And finally.......Grandma Waage & Uncle John made the road trip up to the lake to join us in our feast. It was nice to have them. Both of them have only been to the lake once and it was more like a stop & drop off the boat instead of a stay and enjoy yourself.

This Thanksgiving, we have a lot to be thankful for. Several years ago, when we parted ways from my side of the family, Ashley and then Abby.........we never thought we would understand why the Lord would have us go through so much heart break.....But the one thing that has keep us all going is our faith in God & his verse:

"Everything happens for a reason - you may not know why, today or tomorrow - but someday it will all become very clear"

Today it is very clear...........

Thank you to all our friends and "real" family for seeing us through those hard times and without all your love we wouldn't be where we are today.

Much love to all

Joel, Amy & Jonathan

P.S.
Yes, I will be back to updating the blog after my little vacation

Homecoming 2009

This past weekend was homecoming at Chetek High School. It started by Joel & I taking off from work early in order to get up to the football field in time for kick off. I'm not sure how fun it was to sit in the rain, but it's just the stuff you have to do as parents. By half time, the Bulldogs were losing 0-15. The half-time show was fabulous (ok, my son was in it, so what can I say) The marching band played several Rolling Stone songs while the color guard twirled their flags. Let me say, I could differently see the difference in the training from South St Paul march band & Chetek. Jonathan was totally poised while the remainder of the band was, well.......not so much. The color guard was once again another story, Abby in her prime could out twirl them with her eyes blindfolded & hands tied behind her back (ok, so maybe not the hands tied behind the back) But all in all it was a very nice preformance. I alway did & do enjoying watching the marching band & color guard perform. After half time, the rain tappered off, but not quick enough to allow the Bulldogs a homecoming win.

Saturday we spent working in the garage, basement & storage locker trying to get things squared away in preparation for another garage sale. Pam & Steve came over to help & lend some company. At 6:42 pm, Jonathan decided he was going to the homecoming dance afterall with Cassie and it started at 7:30 pm........huh! I improvided & had him out by 7:45 pm! I was impressed with myself on that one.

Sunday was just another run around day. Up to Rice Lake to get the guys groceries for the week, some new winter clothes & supplies from Menards. Joel & I were out the door by 4:45 pm, so we could get home early enough to get to Menards in WSP to get a new closet door for Big Joe's old room & trim for Jonathan's room before they went off sale. Sheld came over to help Joel move the washer & dryer back into the laundry room after the new floor was dry.

I'll have to get pictures from my son from the festivities to post on the blog.........

We are now a 4 Season Cabin

Joel's vacation is all complete and he is back to work like the rest of us poor folk.......but he got a shit load done.

The furnace & central air was finally completed on Thursday, so we are officially a 4 season house. Just because the title is there, doesn't mean that the Waage's are ready for their first winter at the lake.......but we are getting there slow but surely.

Big Joe picked me up from work at 2:15 pm on Friday, so we could make a bee line to get to the lake because Jonathan was going to playing in his first pep band as a Chetek Bulldog and I wanted to be there. So we pull up into the driveway & there stands my beloved son with 4 cheerleaders! huh..... So off he goes to toot his horn. The Bulldogs lost :( but my son sounded fabulous. I am so proud of him. While that was all going on Joel & Steve were moving the water pipes in the basement to prepare for Wayde & Shelley to come in the morning to scope out the possiblity of putting some step inside the house going to the basement. Later Pam & I drove over to Jeanie & Chris's house. Irene (my adopted Kensey mom), Chris, Jeanie & Suzie were sitting around a bon fire. Pam was going to be borrowing Suzie's car for the weekend to get to work.

Saturday we had to have Jonathan at the high school by 4:30 am.......yes, I said 4:30 am because they were taking a school bus down to Madison to play at the Badger game. Once again, he had a blast and was home by 7:00 pm but he was a little tuckered out. But not so tuckered that he & Daniel couldn't make a trip up to Rice Lake to hang out for awhile. While Jonathan was gone for the whole day, we had to get to our business at hand of getting the house ready for winter. Wayde & Shelley came up from O'Neill Creek to check out our ideas for adding steps into the basement. As always, Wayde comes to the recue and came up with a fabulous idea. So November 13th & 14th, with Wayde leading the pack........we are getting steps. Woo Hoo!! We are going to lose the guest bedroom (sorry everyone :( but we still have the futon, air mattress or floor) & trying removing the wall between the guest bedroom & livingroom to open up the space. Also at some point be adding a office area on the bathroom wall. After Wayde & Shelley left to go back to attend Oktoberfest, Joel & Big Joe continued to work on building walls, insulating and sheet rocking the basement. They only have 1 more wall to go and they are done. Boy does that make a difference......it actually is warm down there.

Sunday was more of the same.......work, work & work. We had absolutely beautiful weather, but didn't take the opportunity to hit the water on the pontoon or jet ski at all. It will all pay off in the future. Pam & Steve stopped over in the afternoon & stayed to send Joel, Lilly & me back to South St Paul later in the evening after I fixed Jonathan dinner. He needed to be at marching band practive by 6:45pm. They are down to the wire in preparation for the show at homecoming this Friday.

Love you all.....

Chetek Harvest Fest 2009

This past weekend was Chetek's Harvest Fest and Rita came up to enjoy the festivities. Joel & I got a late start coming out of the cities because he decided to finish up the floor in the SSP house laundry. So by the time we went & picked up Rita & got to the lake it was about 8. We relaxed and decided to head to bed early because we were on schedule to have a busy Saturday.

Saturday morning started bright & early with Rita & I heading out to attend the Chetek All City Garage. Yes, anybody that knows me knows how much I dispise going to garage sales. But Rita wanted to.....so off we went. She had a blast finding little treasures. We garaged saled until 10:00 when we headed over to pickup Pam who was going to take us to 2 stores in Barron that I had heard about but never had been to. The first one was Fitzerger's Meat (I don't know how to spell it) but it is a really "cool" place and I literally mean it. You actually walk into the cooler & freezer to get your discount meats, cheese & goodies. We left with a nice assortment of stuff. After that we headed to the Country Lane Pantry, which is a cute little store run by a family of mennonite's. When I entered that I was in high heaven. It has bulk spices, organic bulk food & a nice little sugar free section. I could have been lost in that store for hours and it wasn't all that big. We surely enjoyed ourselves and once again left with a HUGE selection of stuff. After that it was time to start heading back home to get ready to go to the demolition derby. Rita was tired, so she decided to stay back & take a nap. Jonathan & Cassie where there to keep her company once she awoke. Joel, Big Joe, kid-napped Pam & myself went on to the derby (Steve was home sicker than a dog & wasn't invited along because we didn't want his dam germs....love ya Steve xoxo). He had a blast!! Hope that Chetek takes this money maker & goes with it. For the first annual they had a BIG turn out. We got home around 6:30 just in time to hand some cash off to Jonathan so he & Daniel could got grab a bite to eat & a movie in Rice Lake. Daniel is a foreign exchange student from Norway. He & Jonathan are the new kids on the block and are having fun navigating the school together. The rest of us had a little dinner & turned in around 10:00 pm.

Sunday was the normal laundry day, but I was up at the crack of dawn and had all of it wash & on the line by noon or so. The guys ran to Menard's to get a couple parts for when Joel moves the water lines. When we returned.....it was time for some boating. 80's & sunny = boating & cocktails. Had a beautiful afternoon on the lake with our boat and Pam & Steve's boat hooked up & toodling. It was Rita's firest boat ride and she ejoyed herself. Pam & I made lunches and we ate on the boat. Then it was time to head out. Joel got to stay behind while Big Joe, Rita & me had to go back to MN. Yuck!

Joel stayed behind because he is on a working vacation. We are getting our furnce, central air and hook us up to natural gas. Once this is complete......we will be officially a 4 season cabin and the final step in preparation to get the house ready for winter.

Take care

Jonathan's first day of his senior year

Tuesday, September 1st was Jonathan's first day of school in a new school of his senior year. Joel & I came up the night before to attend the open house, so we both decided to take Tuesday off to share in this special day.

Monday night at open house we got the grand tour of the school and were able to meet all his teachers. The last teacher we were to meet was, Mr William Munch. When we arrived in his classroom, the guidiance counselor introduced Jonathan as a transplant from South St Paul. Mr Munch then laughed and stated "You are my rival!" We all looked perplexed at each other as Mr Munch went on to explain. Mr Munch stated that he graduated from Henry Sibley and as everyone knows WSP & SSP are total rivals. As the conversation continued, He said that he graduated in 1981 which Joel replyed ......"So did I!" So Mr Munch went behind his desk and pulled out the 1981 yearbook from Sibley and sure enought......there they both were. What a flippin small world. Jonathan made several new friends that evening, but one that stood out was, Cassie. She helped him around and showed him where all the classroom were. She was great help. That night, Jonathan didn't do much sleeping due to nerves & excitement.

Tuesday morning I got up with him to help him get ready & make sure he was on time. And of course I had to snap the kodiak moment as well.

But as he pulled away........I couldn't help remembering way back to kindergarten. It was September 1997, when my little man was proving to the world he was ready to go to school.

As he got into that big black pickup ...........I couldn't help remembering him getting into that big yellow school bus........................

Boy time has sure flown by. In no time it will be May 29, 2010 and he will be graduating from high school and on his way to college.

Lots of love......

Birthday Girl Weekend!

Friday was Lilly's 1st birthday which we celebrated Saturday evening. This weekend Kevin, his girlfriend, Nicole and her children Lisa and Matthew were our guests. It was the first time Kevin had been up to the cabin and Joel & I gather he enjoyed himself quite well. Kevin is Joel's childhood buddy and they go back as far as going to kindergarden together. Kevin's brother Keith also was known to hang with them throughout the years, but he has been MIA for the last 3 years since getting married! (sorry Keith, had to get 1 jab in there seeing Kevin informed us you keep up with the blog!!)

Saturday morning everyone tried to sleep in, but were rudly awoken by the bass boats taking off across the lake at 6:30am for the start of yet another fishing tournament. Kevin, Nicole, Lisa and Matthew were also treated to a immature eagle sernading them in the pop-up camper.......as Lisa stated "It was the same song time & time again". Well isn't that most of today's teenagers music as well!!!! LOL We had a very quick breakfast and hung around until it was time to hit the water. It was a beautiful day with lots of sun. The day was spent on the jetski and at the island. A little sun burn was to be had by all. We grilled hotdogs for dinner and munch on Lilly's birthday cake for dessert.

Lilly with her cake

Lilly enjoying a taste of her cake, but not too much because a moment on the lips and it's a life time on the hips.

We wrapped up the evening with a bon fire and Steve playing the guitar and trying to come up with a good example of a oxi-moron!. It was great!

Sunday morning everyone was up and adam by 9:00 am for a belgium waffle breakfast. After breakfast dishes were washed and put away everyone hit the dock for jetskiing & tubing. Nicole even drove the jetski by herself (Kevin was on board though)

And they returned safely back to the dock

Nicole sittin on the dock waiting the jetski take off again

Lisa not wanting the weekend to end.....but we know she will be back!!

All & all it was a lovely weekend and hope that Kevin & the crew enjoyed themselves as much as we enjoyed having them!

What a productive weekend

Well, as you all know, Lilly came down with kennel cough and we needed to stay home for the weekend. Joel was a machine this weekend getting a lot done in the laundry room. I teased him that he is fixing the laundry room up for another woman (the new homeowner). It is going to be absolutely beautiful when it is done. During the course of the weekend.......the microwave blew up! So now in the mix of things, we have to purchase a new frickin under the cabinet microwave!!

Sunday, we brought in the reinforcements in........and Big Joe came home for awhile. He is able to do projects during the day while Joel is working, so it takes some of the pressure off of him. Lilly is doing ok with her kennel cough, but still is having bouts of it now & then. Medicine is slowly working.

Monday, Big Joe did some re-wiring in the mechanical room in preparation for sheet rock and installed a new florescent light in laundry room while Jonathan & Michael broke down the cement laundry tubs. Once that area was cleaned out, they disconnected the washing machine. My project for the day was to go onto craigslist and find a new/used microwave, which I did for $50.00!!!!! hip hip hooray. I also went looking for bids to do some carpet installation & hardwood floor sanding. After Joel came home and we had dinner, the guys installed a new steel back door and screen door. We also scheduled our Realtor to come out and meet with us on Thursday evening to preparation for the big day..........putting our house on the market.

Tuesday is another big day............Big Joe is going to be finishing up the mulch in the back yard (now that I have beautiful green grass), touch up the mulch in the front yard, re-wire electric above shower (make it right), remove the shower and clean/paint the cement blocks behind the shower. Jonathan has a somewhat easy day........he is packing up is bedroom up. He was 4 choices: garage sale, his room at the lake, storage and my favorite....THE TRASH!!!!! lol. His days are getting numbered, so he is spending alot of his evenings hanging with his friends. We officially move him to the lake next week & he starts school in Chetek on September 1st. Tonight when Joel gets home, the guys are going to start jack hammering the floor in preparation to install the new shower drain & new shower.

Glad the weekend is over!

Last weekend was Jonathan's cabin party with all his South St Paul friends. Jeromy, Tyler, Chase, Derek, Michael, Bri, Hailey and Heather all came for some fun in the sun.

They started with pulling an "all nighter" with gaming.......I woke up at 4:30am and most of them were still going strong. Lilly tried to be a "tweenager" and keep up with them, but didn't make it.

Saturday morning started out with rain and clouds.....it almost looked like the day was going to be a bust. So most of the gang decided to grab some shut eye. By early afternoon the skys cleared out to a beautiful day. We were able to get some jet skiing in and a trip to the island. All in all I think everyone had a blast. Saturday evening was taking walks and more gaming.

Sunday morning started with more clouds. We received a phone call that Chase's father was in the hospital and not doing well, so Big Joe ran him down to exit 41 where his neighbors picked him up to bring him to his family at the hospital. I fixed Jonathan's favorite breakfast, egg slop & toast. Then it was the Sunday cabin clean up.........and we were all back to South St Paul by 5:00pm.

Well, now for the bad news for this weekend..........
I have been bring Lilly to the dog park down the street from our SSP home. Last night she woke up very conjested. Took her to the vet this morning and she has kennel cough. She had been vacinated for it, but they aren't 100%. Kennel cough is 110% contagious, so we can't go to the lake this weekend, because we don't want to infect Zoey or Maxx. So we are staying home to do more work on the house in preparation to put it on the market by October 1st.

Take care

What a nice weekend

This past weekend Wayde, Shelley, Klaus, Ann & Sheldon (Shea, too!) came up for some fun in the sun. Everyone but Sheldon & Shea arrived friday night, had a couple cocktails and hit the sack by midnight.

Everyone slept in on Saturday morning until around 8:00 am then we had a nice breakfast of Belgium Waffles. Once the relaxing conversation and dishes were done, the sun started to come out. It was very windy, but us girls decided we were going to go out on the boat no matter what! So we gathered all the "boat food" we prepared and headed out to fine a nice sunny non windy bay to park, eat & drink. We caught up with Pam & Steve and hooked together and shortly after that, Tim & Sue showed up on their Brand spanken new pontoon with Suzie & Max on board. After they tied up to our little floating convoy......Sheldon called to be picked up at The Pokegama dock. So Tim disconnected & sped away with his 75 hp motor to get him. After awhile we all had to separate to go home to get cleaned up for our dinner. We had 17 people going to Birch Point in Bloomer for the all-you-can-eat buffet. It was wonderful as usual. After we came home we had a couple cocktails and put our full bellies to bed.

On Sunday morning we had make your own omelettes. Turned out to be a gerat sucess and everyone got them just they way they like them. After breakfast dishes everyone got their suits on and headed for the lake. We just hung out down by the boat, laid in the sun & played on the jet ski. Everyone headed for home later in the afternoon. It was a fabulous weekend and we always look forward to when Wayde & Shelley and Klaus & Ann can clear their busy schedules to come & visit.

Next weekend it is the younger generation coming. Jonathan is having his first annual cabin party with all his old friends & new Chetek friends. One side note........Yesterday we received news that Jonathan is officially a Chetek Bulldog. He will be starting school in Chetek on Setptember 1st. He is very excited to start his new school.

Holy Moly.....Bat Man!

Quite an eventful weekend, but all in all very nice. Rita joined us this weekend for Robin & Scott wedding festivities.

We all turned in fairly early friday night, because we figured it was going to be a late evening on Saturday.

Saturday morning we all got up early and headed into Rice Lake for a little shopping for Robin & Scott's wedding. Stopped off at McDonald's for a quick breakfast and while we where sittting there Rita informed us that while she was brushing her hair this morning a bat was dive bombing her in the bedroom. While we all know that Rita can have "on" days & "off" days.....we all just chuckled and assumed that today was going to be an "off" day for her. Got back to the house and got ready to head to the wedding in Weyerhauser. Jonathan's new friend, Jessica, from Chetek decided to join us and to keep Jonathan from being bored.

Robin & Scott's wedding was very nice. She looked absolutely stuning

So after the reception the honda "pilot of shit's" crew member decide to go stop off at Northshore for Linda's "New Beginning's" party. After a short time we head back home to call it the day. We arrive and Jonathan's bedding is all over the floor of his bedroom. We asked him what the heck is going on.......he proceeds to tell us that a big moth flew at him and he can't find it. We tell him he has been drinking to much dew and playing too much video games and off to bed we go. Lilly had a up & down night. It seemed every hour dshe was needing to go outside. Well, one of the trips to the potty, Joel came into the breezeway and he felt something fly by him & touch him. Well, he quickly determined we did indeed have a bat in the house and that most likely the "moth" Jonathan saw........was a frickin bat. So he gets Big Joe up and the two of them go bat hunting.......and just like all of Big Joe's hunting expeditions, they came up empty. So after about an hour, Joel comes back upstairs and I asked him "what the heck have ya been doin?".....That is when he tells me I think we do have a bat in the house. Thank goodness we sleep with the door shut, because I would have been up the rest of night. So Joel gets up in the morning to let Lilly out and I wait about 20 minutes or so before I decide to go downstairs. I walked 1 step into the kitchen and froze..............

It's.......dada dada dada BAT MAN!

So Big Joe gets the basket outside and dada dada dada ....BAT MAN, decides.....

He was really pissed about his eviction notice.

p.s...........yes the basket got tossed in the garbage!!!

Have a great week. Next weekend it is Wayde & Shelly, Klaus & Ann and Sheldon. Hopefully we can get out for some island time, jet skiing and cocktails.

Productive Weekend

We had a very productive weekend by staying home........ stuff that needed to get done and just haven't had the extra time to do so.

Saturday started bright and early for me by getting up at 7:00 am. I started "deep" cleaning the dining room as if I was preparing to sell our house.....huh? With all the starts & stops throughout the day, it took 5 hours to clean. I did some more packing & preparing garage sale boxes. While I was doing the cleaning, Joel took off for the horseshoe tournament up at Wayde & Shelley's. I stayed back to represent our family at a couple of graduation parties.

Sunday was a VERY VERY special day for me! I celebrated 3 years of being a non-smoker. It just seems like yesterday that I gave up the shitty habit. Now if I could convince our dearest & closest friends in the whole wide world.......Steve & Pam to give it up, so we can spent the rest of our lives together, that would be the best! After my short lived acknowledgement, Joel started to work in the yard. Several weeks ago, we laid sod in 1/2 the backyard and now we are preparing to do the other half next Monday. Cleaning up the landscaping & munching in the backyard. While he was doing that, I "deep" cleaned our bedroom for 3 hours, prepared Jonathan's cabin party invites and then went out to help Joel. Joel's lifelong friend, Kevin Leiner popped in for a visit and then it was off to the grocery store we went.

All and all for not being at the lake, it was a nice weekend. Looking forward to this weekend at the lake because it is Robin's wedding. The following weekend, our other dear friends......Wayde, Shelley, Klaus, Ann and of course.......Sheldon.......are coming for some fun in the sun time at the island.

P.S........Linda sent me an e-mail to commnet on one of the postings. This is just to let everyone know that you can do a comment right here on the blog. If you have any questions on how to do that, just let me know.

R*I*P

I just found out this morning that Lilly's sister who still lived in Windsor, MO with her real mother & father (and human Mom & Dad) .......passed away on July 3rd after being hit by a car :(
We are so sad because when Joel & I traveled to Missouri to go pickup Lilly, we had thought about taking her as well. This is a terrible tragedy for the family and our hearts goes out to them. It is also a reminder how fast accidents like this can happen with these little speedster.

Vacation is done! :(

Damm did that go fast......

Wednesday, July 8th
Well Wednesday morning we were wakened up by the the back hoe at 7 am. I swear he dug a trench to China.......and then he hooked up the pump so we now have water. As the rest of the week went by, we started to get a light orange colored water. So now we are having to get a filtration system for the house to stop it from getting worst. We meet with 2 more heating & cooling guys and are waiting for those bids to come in. The first guy came in at $20,000!!!! Which we thought was a tab bit high. Wednesday afternoon we started setting up for the garage sale. We went into town about 10:30pm to get some dinner at the B & B.

Thursday, July 9th
First day of the garage sale.......I set the alarm clock for 6:30am in order to get ready in time. I went down stairs & opened the garage door at 7:45 am to tiddy up a little and then I thought I would go make a cup of coffee before the sale started. Holy crap was I wrong......It was nonstop untill 11:00am, in fact we even "sold out". I didn't have much left to sell and was considering pulling the signs. Then we called Steve and Pam (they are having their garage sale this weekend) and told them to start packing up their shit and bring it to our house. After they did that.....garage was full again. I actually cook dinner and then we went to see the Hydroflites waterski show. We have been residents of Chetek for 3 years and have never seen the big show. I guess the hydroflites are state champions

Friday, July 10th
Second day of the garage sale and nothing too eventful. After the sale Pam, Steve, Joel, Big Joe, Finn & I went to the China Buffet and pigged out.

Saturday, July 11th
First of all.....It's my father birthday. Hope he had a wonderful day and it was free of "Hi Hi Hilter" but I high doubt it. The garage sale was finished by 1:00 pm, so that we could get out on the lake for a little boating & jet skiing. Out grand total for the garage sale was $1,391.00. While we were out jet skiing, I broke off one of the mirrors, so now I have that part ordered to the tune of $70.19 (just take that out of the proceeds of the sale) After we were done in the water for the day, we headed down to Birch Point Resort in Bloomer for a all you can eat Prime Rib, Shrimp, Crab Legs and Chicken Buffet. Holy cow was this place awesome! I can hardly wait to take you guys there.

Sunday, July 12th
Clean her up and headed home by 4:00 pm. Jonathan meet a couple kids from Chetek on Facebook, so they hopefully they will get together to hang out sometime.

Gotta go

Time to catch up

Well we have alot to catch up on.....so here it goes:

Hip Hip Hoorah......It's V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N Time On Thursday afternoon, I got off work and was heading home, 94 was was backed up, so I got off the highway so I could go through downtown St Paul. Silly me......It was the first day of Taste of Minnesota. As I made my way through downtown, I as on the corner of Kellogg & Robert Street preparing to make a right turn. The car in front of me had stopped and make sure he could turn and I did the same. As the car in front of me proceeded I followed behind him. All of a sudden, he decided to stop in the middle of his turn for no apparent reason. Needless to say, I rear end him. He gets out of his car looks at his bumper, looks at my bumper and then comes to my window. He suggests everything is fine. I say lets get out of the way and go down the street to park in a parking lot. As we do so, the man takes off. I go to the parking lot and called the police to make sure there is record of me stopping because it was my fault. The police said that the dude most likely had no insurance, was an illegal alien or an outstanding warrant. So I finally get my butt home and I get a call from Joel stating his car broke down on 35E. Lovely....... so Big Joe has to tow him in rush hour traffic. We get the Aveo home and finish packing up the car. We finally got out of town at 7:30p.m. As we head out, we were thinking that everything happens in 3's........so maybe we outta stay home & go up in the morning! On friday we worked in the garage some more. Joel set up his work bench and cabinet. He still has to bring his toolbox on wheels up, bu the has decided to keep that a the SSP home for the time being. Nothing to exciting for the rest of the day.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!!
We started the morning by cementing the new mailbox post in, so that it could set. Got on the boat and headed to the island. By the time we got there, nobody was around. So we decided to head over to Pam & Steve's house to see if everybody was there. Sure as shit......that is where everybody was. Had a cocktail or 2 or 3........then headed to watch the fireworks in the middle of lake. When everybody got there......we had 7 boats hooked up together. After Chetek's fireworks display, we all headed over to Tim & Sue's house for their annual fireworks display. Their display is better than the Chetek's but maybe it's because it's like having our own private showing.

Sunday we just spent hanging out and doing odds & ends project around the house. Sunday afternoon Pam & Steve came over via their boat and we decided to go out for a cruise. The whole weekend was crazy on the lakes with all the tourists, weekender and regulars on the lakes. We hooked the 2 boats togther and just enjoyed the peace & quiet on the lake. Went to Gilligan's and ordered a couple of pizza's to go to eat in the middle of the lake. Now this is the life!

Monday morning started off very busy.......it's the day we are getting our well drilled. The drilling rig showed up at 8:00 am. The driller decided he would rather drill the well down next the pop up camper instead of the top of the hill......great for us because it saved us a shit load of money!!!

Drilling rig getting into position

Drilling rig with the boom up

The guys had to do a little tree trimming

The hose of the drilling rig looks like a ........!

After 3 hours and 39 feet, we have a well with clear, clean and refreshing water! hip hip hurray!
The back hoe will be here hopefully on Wednesday to connect the house to the well.

While the well was being drilled, we had our first heating & cooling contractor come to the house to give us a bid for a heat source. He will be back tomorrow at 10:00 am with his prepared numbers. I'm afraid of what those numbers are going to be.

Monday evening Joel & I took Pam & Steve out for all you can eat crab legs at Gilligan's to re-pay Steve for a fraction of what did did for us to get the shower house ready for Memorial weekend Bash and all the continuing stuff he helps Joel with. After dinner, we went to a relaxing boat ride into the sunset. It was absolutely beautiful end to a wonderful evening.......until we got back home and Joel & Steve decided to throw shoes in the dark. After getting eaten alive by mosquito's, we called it quits for the evening.

More moving

This last weekend we did somemore moving stuff from SSP to the lake. Rita was the only guest that came up. Saturday was rainy so we couldn't go out in the boat, so we went shopping in Rice Lake in the morning and worked in organizing Joel's garage. It finally cleared up around dinner time, so we packed Rita up on her scooter and we all went for a walk. Came back and had a cocktail and we all were in bed early. Sunday was a nice day, but very windy, so boating again. Came back early to do more cleaning in the SSP garage. Big Joe stayed up and will be home Thursday afternoon and we will be going up Thursday evening to start our vacation. Yea!

Officially went to the island

Last year our first official date of in the water at the island was July 4th, this year the official date was June 20th. Saturday morning Joel & Big Joe put the jet ski lift into the water and boy is that slick. No more having to hook the trailer up to Big Joe's truck and haul it over to the Pokegama landing to launch it. Now we go down to the dock and hop on. Around noon we headed over to the island to meet Steve & Pam for lunch & a couple cocktails. Mike, Suzie, Baily & Maddie showed up a little later. It was a wonderful afternoon with absolutely beautiful weather. We all left around 4:30 pm to go back and get cleaned up to attend Tim & Sue's cabin warming party. Last fall, Tim & Sue started building their log cabin garage......it is officially the garage, but they converted it into a 2 bedroom house for them to live in while they try to sell their land & trailer over on the creek off of Pokegama (next to Steve & Pam) & their home. Once they sell thoses, I'm sure they will start on the main cabin and then convert the temporary cabin back to a garage. Well, anyways the garage cabin is beautiful and Sue has done a wonderful job of decorating and putting the homely touches to it. Also we were able to visit with Sue's son, Alex. He is the window washer that fell off 6 story bank building last week and lived to tell about it.
Here is the article from KARE 11:

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- It is an odd feeling knowing by any reasonable measure you should not be alive, but Alex Clay, 21, has spent the past day with little else on his mind.

"I can't believe I'm actually here," he says.

The window washer was crawling over the ledge at the top of Eau Claire's U.S. Bank Building Monday afternoon, transferring his weight, when he noticed his rigging wasn't properly connected.

He tightened his grip on a metal bar connected to his window cleaning apparatus. He can't say how long he held on with his feet dangling below him, but it felt like a long time.

"I held on as long as I could, but you get to the point where you're maxing out your body," he said. "You get to the point where I can't even support my life anymore. I have to let go."

Clay thought his safety rope would catch him, for reasons still unknown, it didn't. He fell six stories, hitting a metal awning above a doorway before hitting the sidewalk. A paramedic would later tell him that awning "'could have been what saved my life."

"He was very, very fortunate," says Dr. Brad Grewe, a trauma surgeon at Luther Midelfort hospital in Eau Claire. Grewe wonders if a rope or some other may have helped slow Clay's descent. "But to fall six floors - we don't even have many six story buildings in Eau Claire."

Clay suffered scrapes, bruises and a broken foot, but should be out of the hospital by Thursday.

"Everyone's just telling me it's a miracle," he says.

Anyways, it was nice to have the opportunity to visit with him instead of the alternative of visiting about him! He is doing well and is expected to make a nice recovery.

Sunday was father's day and Joel enjoyed his day with Jonathan. I made his favorite breakfast of Belgium waffles and then he did some work on his horseshoe pits and odd jobs around the house.

This weekend is shaping up to be another lovely weekend and we are hoping to get on the boat/jetski for some fun.

Holy crap does time fly

It is already Thursday and I haven't even post to the blog yet. Oh well.....let's pretend it is Sunday night or even Monday morning:

This past weekend everyone was gone at the lake. Big Joe and Christina went to a powwow in Morton, MN. Pam worked on Saturday and hung our with her kids. Steve & Suzie were in the cities. Jeanne & Chris have put her land & camper up for sale, so I'm sure they weren't up. So that left Joel, Jonathan & me. Jonathan was flat on his back sicker than a dog, so by all reality....it was Joel & me.

We didn't want to uncover the boat and we couldn't take the jetski out for a ride, because we had no way to get it out of the garage into the water (Big Joe & his truck were gone). So we decided to make it a working weekend. After 24 1/2 years of marriage, we proved we can still do projects without killing each other. We totally cleaned out the garage, added ceiling racking to prepare for the move to the lake, added shelves under the steps for Joel to be a little more organized and totally clean off the work bench wall. It was alot of hard work, but boy does it look nice. We have been slowing moving stuff up and finally decided yesterday to rent a storage locker to storage all the stuff until we can get it figured out were it is going: the dump, the garage sale or keep it. We are cleaning out the SSP house in preparation of putting it up for sale.

Our beloved neighbor, Mrs B passed away in January, so her daughter Joann just listed her house on the market yesterday for $149,000. Boy that is scary. I hope the market turns a little more in the next month or two for when we are planning on putting out house on the market.

This weekend we are planning on having a fun weekend and have every intention of spending time at the island. On Monday we were fortune enough to have found a jet ski lift on Craigslist. Big Joe is coming home today from the lake so him & Joel can go out to Lake Minnetonka to pick it up. After last weekend of not being able to get the jetski into the water......well now that will never happen again! We are so excited.

Hope everyone is having a great summer .......talk to you all soon

What a sucky Saturday :(

It is cold & rainy, but at least the wind isn't kicking up.....yet. Enjoying a quite weekend doing small projects around the house. Toilet is getting a new toilet seat (interesting fact: we have had to replace the toilet set after every Memorial weekend bash...huh!), fixing the slow draining bathroom sink, set up internet on the computer (hence why I'm blogging today), preparing for a garage sale here at the lake and planning the layout of the rooms in the basement. So not really much excitement around here.

After dinner, Jonathan & Jeromy are going to Northlakes Drive In for some ice cream and then go hang out at the bowling alley........I'm sure they are going on the prowl for chicks. Steve & Pam are coming over for a couple cocktails and to shoot the shit.

Hope everyone is enjoying their rainy Saturday.

Lilly "The Dentist" Waage

We had a nice quiet weekend with rain Friday night, sun & wind Saturday and sun & wind Sunday. Overall it was a lovely weekend. After last weekend, we just took it easy and hung out with Rita. Joel & I purchased a 4 wheeled mobility scooter so Rita would be able to go for "walks" at the lake and that worked out quite nicely. Finn made a race course and was racing himself on the scooter. It's amazing he won every race. Joel finally after 2 years put his horseshoe pits in. Look out Wayde & Klaus.......he might even get some practice in before the horseshoe tournaments in July. Big Joe brought his friend, Christine to the lake this weekend. We didn't see much of either of them because they were in Hayward, WI for a pow wow. Christine entered a dancing expo for fun, so we were able to see 4 of her dancing dresses that were filled with indian beading that she does very beautifully. We didn't see Steve or Pam this weekend at all. We figure he thinks that if he comes over we will put him to work. HEY STEVE, COAST IS CLEAR........WORK IS ALL DONE FOR THE SUMMER! Now it is time to enjoy the lake :)

So here's a story for the books.......it is absolutely hilarious, now that it is over:

Rita came up to the lake for a nice relaxing weekend. We all arrived about 7:30pm and get everything settled. We decide to have a little cocktail or 2 and about 10:00 p.m., she decides to go to bed. It was a little cold for her, so heated up the bed in the guest room and plugged in a radio beside the bed, so that she would have something to do in the morning (she apparently is an early riser). I get up the next morning around 6:30 am so that I can go hang with her. I'm in the bathroom doing my hair and Joel is lying in bed. All of a sudden I hear him say "Shit" and I turn around to see him holding a set of teeth. After I shook off the disbelief, I realized they were Rita's teeth. I finish getting ready, grab the teeth & go racing downstairs to see what is going on. Big Joe is up and looking for Lilly. He saw her go racing out of the guest bedroom with something in her mouth. He didn't see where she had disappeared to. Well, we figured out very quickly what had happened. Lilly likes to check everybody out in the morning, so she raced into the guest bedroom where Rita was sleeping. Rita didn't take her teeth out, so when she fell asleep, her bottom teeth fell out. Well, Ms Lilly found them in the bed and figured she found a new play toy. She grabbed them and ran upstairs where she got back into bed with Joel and started chewing on them.......

So I put them on top of the refrigerator, because Rita obviously decided to sleep in. So around 8:00 am Rita shows up in the breezeway (Big Joe & I were having a cup coffee) in her nightgown & cane and "Good Morning". I look at her and asked if she was missing something and then went & got her teeth. She laughs and says "I didn't know Lilly was a dentist". You had to have been there......it was so funny, after we figured out that her teeth were still in working order and Joel & I weren't going to have to buy a set of teeth.

To all of you that come and stay with us in the guest bedroom........remember to put your teeth up on the dresser :)

This weekend Jonathan has his friend Jeromy coming, but other than that it appears to be another quiet weekend with nobody on the books to be joining Joel & I. So if you have an open weekend and want to toss in a quick get-away, give us a shout.
